Machine Gun Studios is now 100% Wind Powered!
Welcome to Now I Have a Machine Gun studios, based in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. I offer complete tracking, mixing and production services. My JP rooms, in a 150 year old house with hardwood floors and fireplaces, offer a comfortable, relaxed enviroment to record in. Or, if you have another location in mind, the studio is also mobile.
I view the recording process as an extension of the creative one, rather than a simple document of the finished product; Now I Have a Machine Gun Studios is more than a recording studio with an engineer to turn the knobs. My job as a producer is to help you create a record that is more than just a demo, or a document of a live band. I enjoy creating records with lots of parts and layers, whether it's obvious that that's what's been done when it's finished or not. When you work with me we will have time to look for a different guitar tone for the chorus for example, or try a new vocal harmony for the bridge. You'll also have access to session players for reasonable prices (I play guitar and bass but others include drums, upright bass, keys (hammond organ, rhodes, acoustic piano) and full string and horn sections with an arranger). That said, if what you want is a raw sounding record, that's what you'll get.
Whatever your needs, my production experience can guide you through this process in a relaxed and fun way. If you have a solid creative vision when you arrive I can help you to realize it. If you don't, I can help you find it. And, in either case, I can offer a new perpective on your music. It's difficult to have an unbiased opinion on something you've written or played yourself. With fresh ears, I can help you find a section or part that doesn't work, one that you missed, or stop you and make you listen to the mistake you just played that's actually genius.
In terms of rates, rather than charging by the hour, I usually like to work out a package deal for the entire project that both fits the band's budget and gives the band plenty of time to work and experiment in the studio. I work with budgets large and small, so please don't hesitate to contact me for a quote.
I'm currently booking for spring and summer 2010. I'm happy to come check out your band at a show or rehearsal or listen to a demo to see if I'm interested in taking on your project.
